Multiframe
Analysis - Structural Members
The
basic structure consists of a tree-like set of supports at the base, supporting
a space frame, and the floors above. The tree structure consists of large
(10' dia x 3" thick) columns (Roundo). These are meant to approximate
the large bundles of columns that would be needed to support this building.
The rest of the tree structure is tubular steel 3" in diameter. The floor
slabs are supported by W30s, and the vertical framing members are W40s.
The structure went
through three sets of analysis. Each time member sizes were decreased to
increase the amount of usable space. The most attention was given to the
lower tree-like frame, obviously under the greatest stress.
